The Buck 184 Master Survival Knife, a collaboration between Buck and Phrobis, was specifically designed for the U.S. Navy SEALs. Known as the Buckmaster 184, this iconic late 20th-century survival knife is highly sought after by collectors. Created to withstand the rigorous demands of the Navy SEALs, it was discontinued in 1997, making it a rare find today.
Drawing inspiration from the Rambo knife design, the Buck 184 features distinctive elements. It is crafted entirely from steel, with a robust 6mm thick guard featuring slightly upturned ends. Each end is equipped with two removable rivets, allowing the knife to double as a grappling anchor. Additionally, the base includes a protruding hole for use with a rope, transforming it into a spear.
The handle conceals various survival tools, enhancing its utility even by today's standards. In the 1980s, its capabilities were considered exceptional. Despite its impressive features, production was limited; only 2,600 units were manufactured in the first year of 1984, with total production reaching just 110,000 by the time it was discontinued in 1997. This is a stark contrast to the over one million Buck 1217 knives supplied during WWII.
